FinTech North is returning to Liverpool with a highly anticipated full-day conference, showcasing the enormous momentum the FinTech sector has gained in the city region in recent years, and exploring opportunities for further growth.
Taking place on Thursday 28th March at the University of Liverpool’s Yoko Ono Lennon Centre, the event will cover themes including innovation in Liverpool, skills and talent retention, and funding and investment. Speakers range from home-grown FinTechs and policymakers to some of the biggest hitters on the UK FinTech scene.
The conference is being delivered in partnership with headline sponsor Lenvi, along with the University of Liverpool, Liverpool’s regional business growth hub the Growth Platform, Mastercard, and banking platform provider Vilja Solutions.
Speakers include Liverpool City Council Leader Liam Robertson, FinTech academics from the University of Liverpool, Mastercard, Innovate Finance, and the Centre for Finance, Innovation and Technology.
A portion of the day will be dedicated to FinTech within the Liverpool city region, following a 2023 report from Whitecap Consulting which found that – far from being a fledgling sector – FinTech in Liverpool is booming.
The sector generates over £200m GVA to the regional economy, with strength areas in payments, WealthTech, InsurTech and accounting. Key players include ethical investment platform Circa5000 and global InsurTech iCede – both of whom will be speaking at the conference.
Lending software company Lenvi will deliver a keynote speech that takes a closer look at what some of the region’s biggest and brightest FinTech companies are working on right now.
Delegates can also expect to gain unrivalled insights into macro-economic trends and how this impacts government policy, with Mastercard sharing examples of how its 120 billion annual global transactions have shaped economic and social policies in the UK.
FinTech innovation overseas will also be on the agenda, led by Vilja Solutions, the leading digital banking platform provider in the Nordic countries, which counts Europe’s second largest bank, BNP Paribas, among its clients.
Vilja Solutions will be using the Liverpool conference to announce the company’s entrance into the UK market and set out its plans to scale its operations here.
As has become tradition, the day will conclude with a rapid-fire pitching exercise, with emerging FinTechs from Liverpool and further afield taking to the stage. This includes Liverpool’s Mutual Credit Services, which is dedicated to building a decentralised Credit Commons, cyber resilience experts Amicis Group, and tenant financial management company Tenat.
Will Ellis, Chief Revenue Officer at Lenvi, comments:
“Lenvi is thrilled to be the headline sponsor of the upcoming FinTech North Liverpool conference. We are excited to discover emerging FinTech talent and hear about the growth in the region. Steven Mayren, Lenvi’s Head of Engineering (Credit Platforms), will be sharing his insights on fostering innovation and discussing the lessons learned from an established FinTech during the event.”
Joe Roche, General Manager at FinTech North, adds:
“Since we last held our full-day conference in Liverpool, the FinTech ecosystem has developed massively, so it’s exciting to be back and to look at what’s driving that growth. We have a really good blend of speakers lined up from the city region and further afield, and we hope that the day inspires delegates – whether that be to take the next step in developing their own FinTech, to target investment, or to collaborate with others in the sector on a joint project.”
